Course Overview
Sixth Grade Art and Design seeks to introduce the Cycle of Liberation framework, a critical thought theory, through art exploration while centering student understanding of the Elements and Principles of Art and Design and learning of technical art skills. Sixth Grade scholars creates artworks that reflect their experiences and understandings of themselves and the world or, more commonly, the communities in which they live, thrive, and excel as future creatives from our school community.

"Eye" Am EmpoweredThis project allowed student to use traditional drawing skills to create amazing eye self-portraits that use individualized affirmations centered around empowerment of self.

Ms. Caira Frohman
Being a native Detroiter, Ms. Frohman returned home, from receiving her bachelor’s of Art from Loyola University Chicago, with a passion to share creative art-making within her community. As an art education student at College for Creative Studies (CCS), Ms. Frohman began working to foster meaningful art-making within Detroit’s Youth community by working as an artist in education for Community Arts Partnerships. Now in her first year at University Prep Art and Design: Middle School as a sixth grade art educator, Ms. Frohman’s goal has been to focus on bringing art and design to the forefront of the learning space. Striving to share the creative and practical values of art, Ms. Frohman purposefully reaches out into hopes to ignite individuals’ artistic knowledge and creation in new and different ways.
