Fine Arts

Course Overview

Fine Arts 1 is a year long class that covers a multitude of fine art media and techniques. During class we explored drawing/illustration and mixed media/collage with a focus on the foundations of Art and Design. Along with our creative endeavors we examined artists and artwork from the past and present. Our time in the studio was cut short due to COVID-19, so we did not get to painting and printmaking this year.

Ms. Jaclyn Young

Jaclyn Young is an Ypsilanti based mixed media artist. Her work combines collage, painting, digital, and 3D elements to create artwork inspired by nature, myth, magic, feminism, and the night sky. She looks for the hidden stories asking for a new life in the items we see everyday. Jaclyn is a graduate of Michigan State University with B.A in Interdisciplinary Humanities, emphasis in Studio Art, Zoology, and Theatre. She also has a B.F.A from Eastern Michigan University in Graphic Design and her teaching certification from Schoolcraft College. Jaclyn knows that all students have the potential to create, the key is finding the medium and muse that speaks to them. Finishing up her first year here at UPAD she hopes to instill in her students that every one of them has a voice and art can help them release it into the world.
